Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique® (ART®) is a patented soft tissue technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia (connective tissue), and nerves. A multitude of musculoskeletal conditions can benefit from ART. These conditions all have one important similarity: they are frequently the result of overused muscles, causing muscle spasm, scar tissue and eventual loss of function. When tissue is damaged, the body responds by replacing healthy tissue with scar tissue or fibrosis that can produce pain and restrict range of motion. ART is both an examination and a treatment where abnormal tissues are treated immediately by combining precisely directed tension with specific patient movements to eliminate the adhesions and restore proper function.

Benefits of Active Release Technique include:

  • Increased flexibility and range of motion

  • Decreased lower back pain

  • Improved chronic neck pain

  • Relief of tension headaches

  • Management of chronic pain like carpal tunnel, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, sciatic symptoms

Common conditions treated with Active Release Technique:

  • Headaches

  • Back pain

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Shoulder pain

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Sciatica

  • Knee pain

  • Tennis/Golfers elbow

  • Shin splints

  • Nerve entrapments
